Road Safety

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)

Last week Camps Bay Primary had a wonderful Valentine’s Week full of love, roses and chocolates! The week culminated with an exciting Assembly. Mr Collier dressed in Mandela outfit and mask entered the hall and presented a talk on Mr Mandela linking it to the fact that the 11 February marked the 20 year anniversary of Mr Mandela’s release from prison in 1990. Three points were emphasised and explained to the children to learn from Madiba:

Standing up for what is right even if it is hard: prepared to give up his life and 27 years imprisonment in the struggle for freedom and equality

His willingness to forgive

His humility and caring nature for others

On a lighter note, a boy from each class presented the lady teachers with a rose in the Assembly and the highlight was the love game of ‘Cupid’ played by Mr Rycroft and three lady teachers!

ROAD SAFETY: There have been a number of near incidents when children are being dropped off for school, particularly in the mornings and a number of parents have expressed their concern. Please could I ask you to be very careful when dropping off your child in the mornings. We will be presenting a road safety and instruction talk to the children in next week’s Assembly.
A group of parents have been investigating the road safety of the area around the school and are presently engaging with the Council, Municipality and Traffic Department, but it is a painfully slow process!

However, as an interim measure the following procedure will be implemented as of Monday 22 February 2010 and I appeal to you to support these measures:
The ADT Guard at the gate will assist with road safety in the mornings

Orange beacons will be placed outside the main entrance gate in the road to prevent vehicles from stopping in front of this gate as it serves as the entrance for children to the Netball court in the mornings. There is a no parking sign on the gate!

Orange beacons will be placed along the curb (adjacent to the Netball court) that will designate a STOP-AND-DROP ZONE. Please use this area as a stop-and-drop zone ONLY. The ADT Guard will assist to ensure that this area is used for this purpose only.

Children that are dropped off on the opposite side of the road must walk to the beacons opposite the entrance gate from which the ADT Guard will assist them in crossing the road.

Please could you ‘stop-and-drop your child off in the mornings rather than parking and accompanying your child on to the school grounds. This will alleviate congestion.

This a trial interim measure which may be subject to review but please assist us in the interests and safety of all our children. Thank you for your support.

INTER-HOUSE GALA: Friday 19 February 2010
Tomorrow is our Inter-House Gala from 08h00 to 13h00. This is a great event in which all children are given the opportunity to participate and swim. It will be held in our wonderful indoor pool. Children must wear PE togs and trainers (takkies) to school and also bring the following items:

2009 SCHOOL MAGAZINE: THANK YOU: Every family who was enrolled at the school in 2009 should have received a school magazine that was sent home on Friday last week. If you did not receive a school magazine, please contact Pat at the office. A BIG thank you to the editors, Ms Gibbs and Ms Jensen, for driving this project throughout last year. I know Ms Gibbs was still busy doing the final touches in the December vacation. A BIG thank you to Mrs Vivienne Ashcroft who co-ordinated this three schools project. The three Camps Bay Schools have once again worked closely to produce three uniquely different magazines but with a similar ‘look’ and layout. THANK YOU.
