Inter-Schools Athletics

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)

INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS:
The Inter-House Athletics event on Monday was a great success and the postponement worked out well as the event took place on a cloudy and wind-free morning! It was a wonderful day full of spirit – the House Captains and cheerleaders presented excellent routines. There were also some excellent performances on the track by the athletes. One of the highlights of the day was our new podium (thanks to the Friedman family) on which the top three placed athletes in each event were congratulated. Well done to all the participants – you are all winners! Thank you to Mrs Hamber and Mrs Weldon who were the main organisers of the event. Thank you to all the teachers, staff and parents who officiated and also thank you to the Camps Bay Parents (CBP) for providing the tuckshop facility.
The final House points were as follows:
1. Orange House 452 points
2. Purple House 390 points
3. Blue House 333 points

INTER-SCHOOLS ATHLETICS:
The school is gearing up for the Inter-Schools Athletics event that is being held on Saturday 6 February 2010 at the high school fields from 08h30 to 13h00. Please come along and support even if it is for part of the morning. Camps Bay Primary is hosting the event and the other schools participating are Jan van Riebeeck, Tamboerskloof Primary, Reddam and Sea Point Primary. We would like as many Camps Bay Primary pupils present as possible as supporters. Our House Captains will be there to lead the cheerleading to show the other schools the spirit that we have at Camps Bay Primary! Pupils, athletes and spectators, must wear Physical Education clothes and trainers (‘takkies’) that will be more comfortable.
This is a huge event to organise so please any parents who would like to assist with timekeeping and officiating, please contact Mrs Hamber. The tuckshop will be in operation and boerewors rolls will be on sale.

VALENTINE’S WEEK:
Next week is Valentine’s Week at the school and the committee of teachers have some exciting and romantic events planned which they will launch in the Assembly on Friday morning. I have been given ‘strict instructions’ not to divulge information before the assembly, however, a flyer will be sent home on Monday explaining all the events for next week. The week will culminate with the Valentine’s Dance for the Grade 6’s and 7’s. The Grade 8’s who were at Camps Bay Primary last year will also be invited to attend.

COLIN SUNKEL INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS: Each child has received an envelope from Colin Sunkel Photography with today’s newsletter. Should you wish your child to be photographed kindly complete the required details on the envelope and send it to school by next Thursday, 12 February together with the correct amount of money. Please note if we do not receive the envelope back your child will not be photographed on 16 February.

GRADES 1 and 2: Circle Sports Day and School Picnic: Our Grade 1’s and 2’s will be joining the Preparatory School for the exciting Circle Sports and Picnic on Friday 5 March 2010. Please diarise this date as this IS A MUST EVENT for our Grade 1’s and 2’s. Thank you to Mrs Roussopoulos and the Preparatory School for including us in this exciting event. Further information will follow at a later date.

GENERAL:
LIBRARY NEWS: The library has been completely refurbished. It has been repainted, has a soft wall-to-wall carpet, new shelving and couches, cushions, beanbags, ottomans and a warm rug in greens, yellows and oranges. It is now a very welcoming space and the children love it. On behalf of the Camps Bay Primary ‘family’ I would like to say a special thanks to Susie Joubert who has driven this project to upgrade our library and make it a special place in our school. Camps Bay Primary is proud to have one of the best primary school libraries in the country. We invite parents to pop in and see it for themselves.

CAMPS BAY PARENTS (CBP): (ex-PTA)
We need you! Camps Bay Primary needs the involvement of our parents to make our school a success. Plans on the agenda is a tuckshop on Fridays selling healthy foods, a second-hand clothing shop and raising funds for a piece of the playground to be covered with astro-turf grass!! Please get involved and support our Camps Bay Parents (CBPs).

Start by offering to assist at the tuckshop at Inter-Schools Athletics on Saturday morning. Dads are also needed to help with the braaing of the boerewors for the boerewors rolls. Join the ‘Camps Bay family’ and make a difference!

To provide feedback on money raised last year, new desks for both grade 4 classes were purchased and solar shielding was placed on the windows of the grades 6 and 7 classrooms to reduce the heat in these venues and improve the comfort of the learning environment for the pupils and teachers. Desks for the grade 5 classes are still under discussion by the Planning Committee of the SGB to ensure that we purchase the correct type of desks.

MESSAGES FROM THE CBP's:
Thanks to all parents who worked like trojans at our hotdog and tuckshop stand. Look forward to seeing all parents at the Inter-Schools Athletics Day on Saturday.

We are looking for big plastic containers to hold drinks and ice at our functions. Please check your garages! Carol 07220026091
