Inter-house cross country

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)

INTERHOUSE CROSS COUNTRY
What a beautiful day we had for the Inter-house cross country. There were blue skies, the sun was shining and there was not even a breath of wind! The children were eager to start the event and although some found it a lot easier than others, a good time was had by all.

The Junior Boys eager to get off to a good start!

From left to right: Allegra Nassif, Ella McCarthy-Page, Jemma Cook and Gemma Hartog.

The winners of the various age groups will be announced in the final assembly to be held next Friday, 26 September 2008. A special word of thanks must be given to Greg and Anneke Bright. Their help and assistance proved invaluable to me on the day. Many thanks to the following parents, who marshalled on the route, handed out water sachets and assisted at the finish: Di Pelman, Helen Phillips, Ashraf Abrahams, Nicky Harper, Carol Bysshe, Jenny Meek, Anita Murray, Colleen Burgess, Nike Romano, Hanna and Richard Bjorklund, Malcom Britton and Noleen Knott. The Grade 7’s raised R126 through sponsorship. This idea was spearheaded by Luke Cassar – well done Luke for showing such initiative!

ANNUAL MUSIC RECITAL
Our Annual Music Recital takes place tonight, 17 September from 19:00 sharp until approximately 20:45 in the Bernard F. Segal Memorial Hall at Camps Bay Primary. A number of our young musicians will be performing in the various disciplines of piano, guitar, flute, violin, recorder and drum. Join us in celebrating their musical talents. A reminder that the PTA will be selling slices of Pizza before the recital at 18h30. Margarita pizza slices will be selling for R10 and slices with additional toppings for R15. There will also be beer, wine and cool drinks for sale. Greek shortbread and Halva will be sold at interval. A big thank you goes out to Primi Piatti who supplied the pizzas at a generous discount!

MARKET DAY
The Grade 4 – 7’s will be participating in Market Day this Friday 19 September. Please invite all Grannies, Grandpa’s, Aunties, Uncles and friends to come and support our budding entrepreneurs! A reminder to all pupils who are taking part to please ensure that you are in possession of the following, these items are very important, if you are not in possession of them you will not be allowed to trade on the day:
1. Your hawker’s license, these are available from Mrs Caldis, the Bursar at a cost of R10.
2. Your float (small change for the day to enable you to trade) and lockable cash box to put it in.
3. An extension cord if you are using electricity and please ensure that you have paid your R5 electricity levy.

The Grade 7 parent/teacher conference will also be held on 25 September, however it will be held in the hall and parents will be able to see both Mr Leverton and Mrs Hamber on a “first come first served basis” between 13h30 – 18h20.

Busy Last week of Third Term

Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s)

BUSY LAST WEEK OF 3rd TERM
We have two more weeks left until the end of the third term and it is going to be a very busy time at Camps Bay Primary. Forthcoming events to look forward to include: our Interschools Cross Country, Annual Music Recital, Market Day, 3 Schools Cross Country and Bandana Day! Let’s put our school spirit to the test and enjoy each of these fabulous events.

EMAILING OF THE NEWSLETTER
As of this week we will not be sending out a copy of the newsletter via email. Instead, each week we will be posting the updated version of the newsletter on our website www.campsbayprimary.co.za. To access the newsletter on the website please click on the “NEWS” tab at the top of the web page. The website will also feature a Newsletter Archive which will enable you to access past newsletters. Each child will still receive a printed copy of the newsletter and any additional letters/flyers to take home.

CASUAL DAY
This past Friday we had a casual day in aid of Fountain House and raised R750-00. A big thank you goes out to all who supported casual day and this worthy cause.

BOOK PEOPLE BOOK SALE
On Thursday last week The Book People hosted a book sale in The Bernard F. Segal Memorial Hall at Camps Bay Primary. Both the children and parents who attended enjoyed viewing the different books and purchasing their favourite ones! The school earned 10% back in cash of the total value of the sales and 5% of the total value of the sales back in books which were donated to the school. We will be utilising the funds earned to purchase some new fictional books for the school library.

GRADE 5 SNACK SALE
Last Friday the Grade 5’s hosted a snack sale and raised a whopping R1550! A big thank you to all the parents who sent in yummy treats to be sold and to those who assisted with the sale.

GRADE 7 FUNDRAISER
Many thanks to Brenda and Mik Liltved and their incredibly enthusiastic team of Grade 7 parents for organising Friday night’s evening of music and dance at the Camps Bay Football Club. It was a fantastic evening enjoyed by young and old alike. Mik’s band, “Don’t Call Us” rocked the socks off our feet. It was very well attended and a huge thank you to all the friends and families of our local community who supported this event. An amount of R8500.00 was raised. WOW!

PHONE CALLS
We appeal to all parents to please ensure that their child is in possession of a phone card. These are available at the cost of R20 from the secretary’s office or from the Bursar, Mrs Caldis. From this week onwards we will only be allowing children to call home should an extra-mural be cancelled. We will not be allowing children to call home if they have forgotten P.E. togs or projects, etc. Should your child fall ill during school hours the secretary will contact you.

PTA MEETING
A reminder goes out to all members of the PTA of the meeting that will be held tomorrow morning at 08h00 in the staff room to organise the Annual Music Recital and to start planning the art auction.

TWO FUNCTIONS ON ONE DAY
We are aware that between the Prep and Primary Schools we have two functions arranged for the same day, next Wednesday, 17 September. Hopefully any families that may have children participating in both functions will be able to attend both of them. It is always difficult trying to find days and times that will suit all parties and in this instance the 17th suited everyone best. We trust it will not cause anyone any measure of difficulty.

INTER-HOUSE CROSS COUNTRY
A reminder of the Camps Bay Primary Inter-house Cross Country is scheduled to take place this Friday, 12 September 2008. Pupils are requested to come to school dressed in their P.E. togs. Pupils are permitted to wear a T-shirt in their house colour. Please do not forget to ensure your child brings along a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and a packed lunch. Should your child be unable to participate in the cross country please ensure that you send a letter with your child addressed to his/her class teacher. Children who do not participate in the cross country will be requested to assist where necessary. The cross country route starts on the Symmonds Field and passes the primary school; it then goes through the Glen and back towards the Symmonds Field along 1st Cresent and Finchley Road where it ends on the field.

3 SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY
The Camps Bay Primary School will also be participating together with the 2 other Camps Bay Schools in a combined schools cross country event to be hosted at Camps Bay High School on Tuesday 23rd September 2008.

MARKET DAY
The whole school will be participating in Market Day on Friday 19 September. This is an exciting day where all our budding entrepreneurs get the chance to sell their wares to the rest of the school. Get your thinking caps on and make this a market day to remember. Each child needs to pay a “hawkers fee” of R10 per child in order to participate in market day.

MATHS QUIZ
Alongside is this week’s mathematical puzzle. Enjoy!
