Last Week of Term

Dear Parent(s) Guardian(s)

I cannot believe that six months of the year have already passed. We are on the home straight in term 2 to a well-deserved holiday. Thank you to the teachers, administrative staff and support staff who have all worked so hard to make our school a wonderful place of learning. The assessments are complete and I am at presently signing reports – the vast majority of our pupils have done exceptionally well. I do hope your child has lived up to expectation and has achieved the results that he or she deserves. I think we can be very proud of Camp Bay Primary and its wonderful pupils.

REPORTS: As informed in the previous newsletter, Reports will be issued on Thursday 24 June from 14h30 to 15h30 in the Bernie Segal Memorial Hall. If you are unable to collect your child’s report at this time, the reports will be available from the office on Friday morning until 11h00. Reports will not be available before the time.

SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY: I am pleased to inform you of the election of the new office-bearers of the School Governing Body as follows:
· Chairman: Mr Charles Thesen
· Vice Chairman: Ms Suzie Joubert
· Treasurer: Mr Neil Phillips
· Secretary: Mrs Pat Readman
Further sub committees will be formed in due course.

STAFFING: Camps Bay Primary had two vacant educator state posts that were advertised in the departmental vacancy list. I am pleased to inform you that Mrs Swart (van Hoof) was nominated, in the first post, as the Head of Foundation phase and Grade 3 educator. In the second post, I am also pleased to inform you that the Department has nominated, Mr Ryklieff, into the position as grade 6 educator. Both appointments are effective as of 1 July 2009.
Mr Ryklieff is a teacher with 14 years teaching experience. He is presently a Head of Department at Belmore Primary where he has been teaching for the last 13 years. Mr Ryklieff has been involved in a wide range of areas in school life. He will be assisting with soccer coaching next term.
Mr Ryklieff will be replacing Ms Gibbs as the grade 6 educator. I am also pleased to inform you that Ms Gibbs will be utilised as an Art teacher who will also continue running the Art Club.

READ-A-THON: We had a very successful launch of the annual Read-a-thon fundraiser in the assembly on Friday last week. You should have seen the green Read-a-thon forms. Please encourage your child to read during the holidays and encourage sponsorship of your child’s reading. Last year
R20 000 was raised for the purchase of new books for our school library. With the money raised from this year’s Read-a-thon, we would like to purchase more books for the school library as well as make a contribution towards our new Smartboards which are on order! Please support and start reading with your child – I have already started with reading ‘Spud’!

NOTES4NOTES WILD WEST BARN DANCE:
Please support the Notes4Notes Barn Dance on the second last night of term, Thursday 25 June 2009. Adults and children are all welcome – please dress up in your cowboy and cowgirl outfits and come and ‘yihaaw’! It should be a lot of fun!
