The first meeting of the SGB is scheduled for Wednesday 17 June at 17h00 in which a chairman, a treasurer and a secretary will be elected as well as various sub-committees will be formed. I will keep you informed of the above nominations after the first meeting. Thank you to all those parents that made the effort to attend the election meeting to achieve a quorum to facilitate the election of the new School Governing Body.

On behalf of the Camps Bay School, community and family, I would like to extend a sincere thanks to the parents who as governors of the outgoing School Governing Body served the school over the last three years with hours of time and effort. Thank you to Trudi Hartzenberg, Nike Romano, Alten Hulme and Michelle Hambly-Grobler. A special thanks to the outgoing Chairman, Carol Paton, for giving so tirelessly of her time as well as for her commitment and dedication in steering the school over the last three years. Carol, your efforts, guidance and advice in my short time as principal is also greatly appreciated.

ACADEMICS: Assessment Week 1 is in full swing and is running smoothly. We will be issuing the term 2 reports on Thursday afternoon 24 June 2009 from 14h30 – 15h30.
GRADE 7s: The grade 7s are writing their exams in the Science Lab and are writing two exams per day. The school day finishes at 13h00 for the grade 7s only but if they have sport, they will be allowed to study in the exam venue or in the library from 13h00 to the end of the day, after which they can attend sports practices during the normal times.

GRADES 1 and 3 to 6: The rest of the grades are doing formal assessments according to the assessment schedules handed out by the various grade teachers which you should have received. The school day ends as per normal times and the sporting programme continues as per normal. Please make sure your child attends sports practices during the assessment weeks.

JUNGLE GYM: A further update – the jungle gym has been erected and the company installing the base surface will be doing this on Monday 8 June 2009. So until then the jungle gym is out of bounds.

UPGRADE OF BATHROOMS and TOILETS: This project is well under way, led by Mariella Brocchetto and Jo Springthorpe, and they have exciting plans in the pipeline (excuse the pun!). Mariella and Jo are making an appeal to any parents who can assist with contacts for the purchasing of paint, brushes and rollers. If you can assist, please contact Mariella on 072 538 9571 or Jo on 082 774 5777.
